SoundTouch Free Event
SoundTouch FREE EVENT at The Sage Gateshead in support of the World Sound Healing Day for Peace?
“Aahhhh…” the sound that will be heard around the world on 14th February. It’s the 9th annual World Sound Healing Day for Peace, which always coincides with Valentine’s Day, when people join together in various global venues with their intentional sound to resonate a valentine of love and appreciation to Gaia, to our friends and to our global family.
On this day I am creating a Sound Lounge, at The Sage Gateshead, a space to explore the senses through sound and vibration. Come and relax and enjoy this continuous resonant soundbath and feel free to add your own vocal sound if you wish – your own sound for peace.
This experience of sound and vibration will feature planetary gongs, crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls and vocal harmonics and will create an opportunity to discover simple techniques to find inner calm and relaxation.
Please drop-in anytime between 1200 and 1330 at The Sage, Northern Rock Foundation Hall, on 14th February and resonate with being at peace with yourself and the world through sound. If you can’t make it then I hope you will still be there “in spirit” to project your own sound for peace or perhaps join us for future SoundTouch events in the North East.
Artist in Residence
Hi
I’m Cathy Duncan, Artist in Residence at Core Music for the summer. I’m a local artist who specialises in drawing musicians and dancers from life, then making paintings or prints using the drawings as reference. You might have seen my work at Hexham Hospital, on the walls at Core Music or exhibited in The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle. I have been Artist in Residence for Hexham Abbey Festival 2002 and 2003 and for the Northern Chords Festival 2009 and 2010.
I am thrilled to be working with everyone at Core Music. It is a great experience to draw the musicians who meet here while listening to their live music-playing, usually with my feet tapping! It’s a lot of fun and I aim to convey through my drawings what’s going on within these walls, be it in the Shop, at the Ukulele and Mandolin Clubs, jamming and recording sessions or the informal music on Saturday lunch time.
My work will be on show at Core during the summer as I am taking part in this year’s Art Tour, an annual event organised by Network Artists in Northumberland, when you can see artist’s work in progress and buy art at very reasonable prices. The dates to come along to Core and see my drawings – over 140 so far, and paintings are the first three weekends in June (5/6, 12/13 and 19/20). If you have taken part in the Folk and Percussion Workshops at Core Music this spring/summer or part of Tynedale Community Choir or junior folk group Down in the Attic I have drawn you, and original drawings are available for you to buy!!
Core is at the centre of a vibrant community of people who love all kinds of music- folk, pop, rock, classical. Therefore, I am delighted that they have organised a series of musical events which will be occurring throughout the Art Tour weekends. There will be musical instruments available for you to try out and performances by folk musicians, singers and other instrumentalists for you to enjoy, as well as a demonstration of Gongs for Healing. I will be putting up a large surface for young and old to draw on, while listening to music, as well as giving advice as to how to approach the expression of music through art and talking about my work.
So looking forward to seeing you at Core Music for a great combination of music and art!
