From Daydream to Demo – an introduction to writing and recording your own songs
A series of four workshops with songwriter Peter Hawkin, covering the basics of writing lyrics and music, then recording them on a budget home studio. The course would suit musicians of any ability with an interest in song-writing.
The group will write and record a song from scratch over the 4 sessions…
Session 1 – What is a song? Introduction to writing lyrics.
Session 2 – Finishing the lyrics, and starting the music. Melody, harmony and chord progressions, rhythm.
Session 3 – About recording equipment. Recording the instruments for our song.
Session 4 – Recording the vocals. Mixing and Mastering. What to do with your song!
Peter Hawkin wrote and recorded his first song in 1986, and his most recent in 2009! As a multi-talented musician he usually records alone, although he sometimes collaborates with other songwriters from the UK and beyond, and occasionally records other artists at his home studio. He currently plays guitar and keyboards with a Newcastle based rock band “Behind Bars”.
